2022.01.21 17:11 remotespy Interviewer more junior by title, yet more qualified for the senior role I'm interviewing for?

Had interviewed for a "Senior Engineer" position, where one of the panel interviewers was an "Engineer" by title.
After doing a quick work history check on LinkedIn (and assuming that this info is accurate, ie no work gaps), turns out this Engineer actually has a bit more work experience than me, and that his work experience is a lot more directly relevant to this position than mine is (appears as his former was acquired by present company, and so he has been with them for a long time).
Which begs the question, why isn't this position being given to this Engineer?
Could this be a red flag for advancement opportunities with this company?
Perhaps he did apply for the role internally, but I would suspect that this would pose as a conflict of interest, being one of the panel interviewers.
Secondly, this was the first time I've had someone more "junior" (albeit, just by title) as one of the interviewers. He didn't have much involvement (only asked 2 technical questions at the end), but I found it a bit odd. The only thing I could think of was for the other interviewers to get a glimpse of how I would work with other team members.
I'm still scratching my head over this, curious to hear how some of you would interpret this, or if others have had a similar experience and found out after they joined what the reasons were.

My husband and I have been on the market for a new vehicle for a while. We were already looking before the plague, and are now starting again. We want a pick-up truck. We live 2 hours north of Quebec City and need reliable winter-ready vehicles, and we need a towing capacity of 5000 lbs.
Our situation is: DINK, family revenue is $160 000, permanent jobs, no risks at all (civil servants). Net monthly income is $7500. I have a raise coming on April 1st, at least 10% ($6000) but likely 15% to 18% ($9000-10800).
Debts: $200 000 left on our mortgage, paying more than owed every month (about $1100 per month). House is worth $280 000. No consumer debts, no credit card debt, but $6000 on a LOC, paying 1,8% interest, for house renovation. We have a Subaru Impreza, paying $350 (lease). My car is also a lease, coming to an end soon-ish.
We put over $1500 in savings monthly, excluding retirement, which is already taken by our employers (10% of gross, and equal contribution from employer). We have an emergency fund for the house, 2 personal emergency funds, covering 2-3 months of expenses, and savings of over $40 000.
Our current lease was $325 per month. The truck we are looking at is $545 per month (to buy, not lease) for 84 months, at 2,49%. We will take the difference in our personal expenses and fun money (not changing our savings goals). We honestly spend too much on hobbies anyways... We budgeted for 1.5x our current insurance cost ($120 for the Subaru and my car) and 2x our current gas expenses, and we are still comfortable.
Am I forgetting anything? Is this reasonable?

Hi all. I'm having ongoing communication problems with one specific coworker. I believe she's bothered by me sharing information and ask questions directly, without couching it in sweetness and self-deprecation. She takes this as aggressive, defensive, undermining her, etc.
It's now escalating to HR because of her comments behind my back.
I'm wondering what factors you'd consider in whether or not to disclose autism in the context of ongoing criticism of your communication. I'm tempted to mention it in the hope that it lends clarity, and explains that I truly can't understand WTF her problem is. On the other hand, I'm worried it will end up undermining me long-term. And ... given I don't have this issue with anyone else ... maybe it's not necessary to convey that she is the issue, not me.
p.s. Workplace politics are a waste of time and energy omfg.

I have 5 years of experience, working at my fourth company now. I want to leave again because my current team are a bunch of impassioned dinosaurs in their 40s and 50s.
I have to constantly carry projects because they can't prioritize or have no drive. We all started roughly around the same time so we have the same amount of experience with the product. For some reason, management and recruiting think they're winning some big prize by only bringing in senior devs with a bajillion years of experience, not realizing that stagnation and the law of diminishing returns apply. Our technical isn't hands on enough to weed out the senior devs who can talk the talk but can't walk the walk. The next youngest guy after me was only hired because he has a masters degree in CS, despite him doing poorly on his technical. Shocker, this guy does as little as possible and may as well be the team BA because that's what he seems to like to do.
And before some seniors jump down my throat, I am not some egotistical coder who thinks he's the shit, nor am I talking about all senior devs with decades of experience. The best devs I've met in my career have been seniors in their 40s and 50s, but they were a minority of technical leaders who never stopped growing.
Thing is, I understand their situations. They have families and other hobbies, so there is a lot of value in doing the bare minimum 9-5. So is this a poor excuse to give to companies I interview at? Should I just stick to something more typical like "I've stopped growing, bla bla"?
